Social work students and professionals gathered at the statehouse today for the Social Workers Legislative Education and Advocacy Day.
The event was held to further social workers’ knowledge about the relationship between policy issues and social work and how to advocate for their clients at the state government level. Senate Democrat Leader Vi Simpson was a featured speaker at the event calling for the education of social workers around the state on the many statehouse issues that affect them, including the effects that property tax caps being placed into the state constitution would have on local communities and social workers’ ability to help people around the state.
Senator Tim Skinner of Terre Haute hosted a group of social work students from Indiana State University and Senator Bob Deig of Evansville hosted social work students from the University of Southern Indiana.
The event was organized by the National Association of Social Workers Indiana Chapter.
