This week, March 14 – 20, has been declared Severe Weather Preparedness Week to better educate people on the hazards of severe weather and how to prepare for severe thunderstorms and tornadoes.
The National Weather Service (NWS), in partnership with the Indiana State Police, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, the Indiana Department of Education, the Indiana Broadcasters Association, the American Red Cross and Amateur Radio Operators will conduct a statewide communications systems test Wednesday, March 17 between 10:15 and 10:30 a.m EDT. A second test will occur later in the day, between 7:30 and 7:45 p.m. EDT.
NWS offices serving Indiana will issue TEST Tornado Warnings that will trigger alarms on the NOAA All Hazards radios and other electronic devices that have been programmed. Radio stations will broadcast the TEST warning and text crawls will be carried by TV stations.
