Members of the Indiana Senate Democrat Caucus attended the 21st annual Dr. King Indiana Holiday Celebration, sponsored by the Indiana Civil Rights Commission, the Martin Luther King Jr. Indiana Holiday Commission and Indiana Black Expo, last Thursday in the Statehouse Rotunda. Senator Jean Breaux (D-Indianapolis), Senator Lonnie Randolph (D-East Chicago) and Senator Greg Taylor (D-Indianapolis) were among those in attendance. State offices will be closed in honor of the national Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration.
Prior to the keynote address, a number of awards were presented to outstanding members of the community. Receiving the 2012 Spirit of Justice Award was Amos Brown III, host of WTLC-AM 1310’s Afternoons with Amos.
The Senators were also able to meet a number of school children who came to the Statehouse to attend the event.
“It was so great getting to meet so many kids and talk to them about Dr. King’s vision,” Sen. Breaux said. “I hope they were able to learn a lot from their field trip.”
