INDIANAPOLIS-Newly elected State Senator Mark Stoops (D-Bloomington) was sworn into office today at Statehouse ceremony officiated by Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Brent E. Dickson. Sen. Stoops was elected earlier this month to represent Senate District 40 which encompasses most of Monroe County including the City of Bloomington.
“This is truly an honor to represent our community at the Statehouse,” Sen. Stoops said. “I’m looking forward to continuing to work with Bloomington and Monroe County residents to bring our ideals to Indianapolis.”
Sen. Stoops brings extensive local legislative experience to the office, having served as President of the Monroe County Commissioners and as a member of the Monroe County Council. He is a graphic design and marketing consultant and restores historic buildings in the Bloomington area.
Sen. Stoops and his wife Kara reside in Bloomington. He is the father of four children.
Today is the first official day of the 118th Indiana General Assembly. Known as Organization Day, the single day session provides an opportunity for new rules to be adopted and for legislators to make arrangements for the upcoming legislative session. The 2013 legislative session will begin January 7.
