December unemployment rate ticks back up to 8.2%

On Friday, the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) announced Indiana’s December unemployment rate increased slightly to 8.2 percent from 8 percent in November. In relation to the U.S. unemployment rate, Indiana also remains higher than a national rate of 7.8 percent. While Ohio’s 6.7 percent unemployment rate stood more than a full percentage point lower than Indiana’s, Illinois (9.7 percent), Kentucky (9 percent) and Michigan (9.3 percent) remained higher.

  • County with the highest unemployment rate: Vermillion- 12.1%
  • County with the lowest unemployment rate: Dubois- 5.9%
