Senate Democratic Leader Tim Lanane (D-Anderson) issued the following statement regarding the release of Indiana-specific Marketplace enrollment numbers by the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
“The numbers speak for themselves. Even with a hands-off approach from the governor and Statehouse Republicans more than 132,000 Hoosiers signed up for affordable health insurance through the Insurance Marketplace, beating independent projections.
“It’s clear, Hoosiers took advantage of the ability to choose the health care coverage that fits their families’ needs and budget.
“We can build on this momentum. We can expand health care coverage to 300,000 working Hoosiers still without health insurance, creating as many as 30,000 jobs and spurring new economic activity in our communities.
“We’ve made good progress but these numbers signal a prevailing demand among Hoosiers for access to affordable care. The governor and Statehouse Republicans have done nothing to meet that demand thus far. In a state ranked 41st in overall health, It’s time they get on board and put Hoosiers’ interests above politics.”
