Indiana’s unemployment rate dips to 8.7%


On Tuesday, the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) announced that Indiana’s unemployment rate for January 2012 fell slightly t0 8.7 percent, while the U.S. rate declined from 8.5  percent to 8.3 percent.

Indiana’s unemployment rate remains lower than neighboring states Illinois (9.4 percent), Kentucky (8.8 percent) and Michigan (9.0 percent) however, is now higher than the unemployment rate in Ohio (7.7 percent).

  • County with the lowest unemployment rate: Dubois 5.9%
